I ran a couple of quick tests between the Manfrotto 057 and a RRS TVC-34L where I shot a 2 sec exposure with a 135 f/2 lens on a Canon 5DS R during the exposure I vibrated the tripods to simulate windy conditions. Both tripods were extended fully with with the center columns also fully extended.
I recently had to upgrade to get the extra height needed to photograph overhead on a table. This tripod did a great job, super steady and a monster. It's not light by any means, so if you're thinking carbon fiber here is going to help with that forget it.
I love this tripod! I have used it for portrait work, sports and time lapse- completely solid but not heavy. Awesome with the Manfrotto 057 Mag Ball Head. I have used my 1DX and 5D MkIII with battery pack and it is solid as a rock. Smooth legs and easy action.
This is a hearty-duty, tall tripod that is excellent for heavy camera/lens combinations for use in still or video photography.
I use the tripod almost all of the time during photography. This tripod is big, tall and very solid. I'm 6ft 2in tall and this tripod goes way over my head! It's heavier than my previous tripods, but I'll carry the 8 pounds anywhere to get the solid platform.
As other reviews have pointed out, this tripod is heavier than other carbon fiber tripods. However, it is very manageable for the size, but not something I would take hiking up the mountains.
Used this tripod for panoramic photography, indoor and outdoor commercial, and playing with old Sinar Norma large format rail camera. In many things, it is very solid. The girth of the legs when you first see it is surprising, and the steadiness when set up makes you confident that this will be a...
Tripod is as advertised, well built and solid. Only draw back is weight, cannot be used for wild / nature photography. If you are into macro photography, I would recommend the none rapid column version which would allow you precise centre column height adjustment.
Extremely stable tripod. Maximum height (2m +) is a real plus, The viewfinder of the camera can be at eye height, which I never had before with other tripods. On the downside, all the benefits such as stability and height come at a price: it is big and heavy
Great height for tall photographers and shooting in undulating terrain, yet versatile enough to shoot close to the ground. Lightweight for it's size. quick release legs are great. Love this beast of a tripod.
