If you don't mind the size and weight, this LEICA APO-SUMMICRON-M 90mm f/2 ASPH is the best telephoto lens ever made. If most of your shooting is at f/2, f/2.8 and f/4, this is the best 90mm lens to get.

Fantastic anyplace you need a medium tele lens, and don't mind the extra size (55mm filters) and weight (475g total) compared to slower 90mm lenses.

Anyone demanding the smallest, lightest lens. For this, use the 90mm f/2.8 TELE-ELMARIT-M (1974-1990, 39mm filters, 225g and about $400 used) or today's newest LEICA MACRO-ELMAR-M 90mm f/4 (39mm filters, 223g and about $2,000 new).
The Leica APO-Summicron-SL 90 f/2 ASPH is an ideal lens for Leica SL users who are particularly keen on portrait photography. It produces beautiful results, and is ideal for that compression that particularly suits portrait subjects.
I happened to have both the APO Summicron f2 90mm and 50 mm. I know the strong reviews for the APO 50 mm but in side by side comparisons, the APO 90 mm surprised me with similar resolution, color saturation, contrast, and greater Intimacy because of its closer range.
Astonishingly sharp, almost too sharp for portrait work. This lens will mercilessly exaggerate every wrinkle, pore, pockmark, and wayward strand of hair on your subject, and at wider apertures your focal plane had better be dead on because even small errors will be obvious.

* So sharp you'll need eye protection to look at your negs, * Solid build & good heft

* Too sharp for glamor work (no kidding), * Price, of course
The lens is great, but almost impossible to use unless you buy the magnifier for the viewfinder. With a rangefinder camera, you're not looking through the lens when you focus. This lens is the next to longest you can use.
THE LEICA LENSE DESIGNER HAD WANTED FOR A LONG TIME TO DESIGN A REALLY FABULOUS 50mm LENSE, BUT LEICA KNEW IT WOULD BE HAND MADE AND VERY EXPENSIVE. LEICA SAID NO ONE WOULD PAY THAT MUCH FOR A 50 mm LENSE. MANY YEARS PASSED AND FINALLY LEICA ALLOWED THE DESIGNER TO CONTINUE.
FABULOUS LENS. EXTREMELY SHARP AND THE COLORS ARE JUST BEAUTIFUL THAT I HAVE SEEN FROM IT SO FAR. I LIKE THE FACT THAT IT IS NOT NEARLY AS HEAVY AS MY EARLIER LEICA 90MM LENS.
I finally returned to Havana to conduct a workshop for a few aspiring professional photographers. I took the 90 Summicron along to see how I managed my Leica set-up and the weight the system management I'll have when I'm working.
I purchased this lens two weeks ago. Last year I began shooting a M240. The lens is superb, well made and lives up to the reputation. Though I haven't used it in any working situations, I shoot documentary work for NGO's, I have played with the lens sufficiently to learn how to focus, which requires...
My best piece of glass for portrait. Also very good on Sony A7x via Novoflex Nex-Lem adapter. Perfect quality lens, super sharp, true gem. German precision - like the best swiss watch movement.
This 90mm f2.0 lens has my highest rating. For a distant shot this lens produces a photo that is tack sharp and can be cropped retaining its beautiful resolution. For a group shot in the distance, or a portrait close up its simply unmatched.
