It’s fair to say that LaCie’s Rugged drives don’t look like anything else out there. The stout aluminium shell and garish rubber sleeve are certainly distinctive. We’re not certain it’s something we’d want on our desk, however.

LaCie has a strong USB 3.0 enclosure that is fast, reliable and cheap. Chris takes a look and shows us that USB 3.0 storage doesn't have to break the bank.

A fast drive at a good price, but you'll either love or hate the design

Used as a exterior boot drive instead of the regular boot drive. Boot Speed increased 5 fold and general use of the Mac was also very speedy. Worth every penny. Although it is not the backup drive the use now of the internal drive does create an additioal backup. A win win situation.

I have owned a number of LaCie products over the years and I have always been extremely impressed with their build quality and reliability. I waited for a year to pass before posting a review because I saw so many negative reviews on this drive on here. I really like this drive and use it to travel with my virtual machines for work.

  Gets a little warm so don't put it under anything where it can't breathe. I accidentally put my jacket on it one day and it was really hot after that.

This is a very good drive for travellers and telecommuters. I do both, and use this drive in both situations - both for work files and media (photo backup, music and videos for long flights). It works well and it's very portable.

These Lacie rugged drives have always been really dependable for me, and I appreciate that this one also has Firewire 800. Since it's a 5400rpm drive, I use this more for backups or archiving movies and music.

Mobile and efficient

I would like for this system to have the cable linked to the drive. This is done on some of the other larger drives. If i had known I would have gone to the bigger one. That is an easy upsell team B& H
