Great performance and build quality make the LaCie d2 USB 3.0 Thunderbolt Series a compelling option if you’re after fast storage access. Although it’s not cheap, the d2 is an excellent unit.
This disk is just awesome: latest plugs for an Apple computer, large storage and great buffer, quiet too. I actually partitioned it so I can run a separate OS with just editing softwares. Go for it!
Thunderbolt has 10Gb/s of bandwidth which is very necessary when it is being daisy chained with other devices. Theoretically I believe Thunderbolt being a managed connection can transfer 1.25GB/s. Yes GigaBYTES per second.

As a photographer, this is a perfect addition as the repository for this year's photos. There was literally no setup time with my mac.
People should read up on technology before buying it!

You will NEVER see that 10Gb/s, that is the maximum throughput that the Thunderbolt port is capable of, the hard drive inside this external unit is still a spinning platter drive, so, since it is the slow point, you might get to see between 50-100Mb/s in transfer speeds.
