I cannot rate this LACIE yet, because it's with a computer geek who is currently trying to retrieve info from an old LACIE and place on the new LACIE we just purchased. I do not know whether this is a good purchase yet or not.
Using as a fire wire connected boot drive for 10.9.5 on an older Mac. Seems reliable and boots ok. Only dislike is drive seems to loose connection if I select "sleep" setting on mac, have to re boot mac and turn off drive, and turn back on to re connect. Otherwise ok.
Lacie's proven HD reliability is again unmatched. We use these HD's at my production company and they have never failed. Beyond reliability they also offer a large number of plugins including FIrewire 800, which has been particularly helpful with some of our older systems.
Love a good bit of gear, and this drive is certainly one of those items. It sits beautifully on its stand, taking up very little desk space, and runs quietly, and quickly delivering data as I need it. I've never had a hiccup with it, and I am thoroughly pleased.
I've been using LaCie hard drives for the last 9 years, and their hard drives are second to none. The d2 line is my favorite. Stylish and functional at the same time. Goes well with the Apple line of products.
After plugging in the Quadra it was easy for me to configure the automatic backup. Now the drive does its job, and when it's not in use it powers itself down. The transfer speeds are great, especially with USB 3.0. Overall, I'm pretty happy with this device.
design, image quality, compatibility, build quality, features, easy to use, sound quality
I have used this brand of backup drive now for over 8 years. I have two other drives which I have managed to fill up. They are not on constantly and have been good so far. There is a fan that is run to keep the drive cool. Easy to use. Drag and drop or hook up for automatic back up from your laptop.
I got this product because my other backup drive is out of space. Rather than deleting the data, I have to create a new backup area. I decided to go for this model, the LaCie d2 Quadra as it has lived up to its reputation with other products.
I was looking for a quality hard drive for video editing and back-up. I wanted something with a solid metal enclosure, quadruple interface, and high transfer rates. I looked around and in the end I bought d2 Quadra with USB 3, Firewire and eSATA interfaces. The drive works perfectly.
