LG’s 3.1.2 soundbar offers a solid, relatively affordable option for those seeking a dose of immersion minus the heavy hardware investment.

Good sound quality with movies and music, 3.1.2 Atmos playback, Chromecast built-in for music streaming
-
-
Wireless surround speakers not included, Center channel lacks some clarity on dynamic scenes
LG SL8YG: Remarkably good value but not the broadest soundstage
-
+
Google Assistant and Chromecast support, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, Expandable to full surround system
-
-
Lack of connectivity options
LG’s cheapest Dolby Atmos soundbar is a good advert for the format but falls short on more basic sonic levels

+
Google Assistant and Chromecast, Decent Dolby Atmos presentation, Practical, attractive build

-
Limited dynamic expression, Bass suffers softness, Imperfect sub and bar integration
LG has packed plenty of features into its SL8YG soundbar and sub combo, which offers convenience for getting Atmos into your living room. For "genuine" surround sound the duo is something of a compromise – unless you add the SPK8-S rear speaker package, that is

Dolby Atmos & DTS:X, Satisfying bass, Sleek design, Google Assistant integration

Front-heavy soundstage isn't particularly wide, Fiddly remote control, No rear speakers for full surround
As noted at this year's IFA GPC [see p22], the soundbar market is surging. There's plenty of choice too, from budget models to Dolby Atmos power pushers. LG's SL8YG is one of the latter – a £700 soundbar/sub combi with cinematic immersion on its mind.
The LG SL8YG soundbar is a 2.1 movie audio powerhouse that also delivers strong music performance and Google Assistant voice support.

Expensive., Visual design isn't particularly alluring.
This Sound bar is really solid. I added the satellites too. If you can grab it while on sale, go for it. Meridian technology shines, and this one is of reasonable size compared to its larger more expensive siblings.
Nice sound bar and the sound is amazing and adding the rear channel it will blow your mind of how amazing effect
Very good sound bar - excellent sound and easy setup -Just use the ARC and your all set - paired with my 65 inch LG works perfect
Would highly recommend this soundbar. Sounds great!
I bought this in a package deal with LG OLED55B9PLA TV (on back order). Needed new HDMI cable for ARC port to set up as my old one wouldn't cut it. Have linked it with vinyl player and phone via Bluetooth. Tried all settings so far. Watched Expendables boxset this week.
Good speaker and great atmos sound. Recommended for a small room.
I have not had any problems, sound quality awesome for my ears.(Dolby Atmos) works fine. As long as the content your watching is Dolby Atmos, the system will automatically change just like your TV does with HD to 4K .You also have a LG WiFi speaker app which will let you play with the settings.
The SL8YG produces a really good sound and integrates well with my LG TV.It has beautiful clarity when I play music from my iPhone through it via Bluetooth. However it does lack volume.

Wow, amazing sound quality from this sound bar. Occasionally I have to mute to check if the sound is from the tv or outside it’s that good!
