The IRIX 15mm f2.4 FireFly isn’t at all a bad lens. But it isn’t as good as its Blackstone variant. It isn’t as sharp or as well built. But that doesn’t mean that it isn’t still well built or sharp.
Lens was bigger than I had expected but fits perfectly on my 6d and feels ergonomically correct. Build quality is superb. Smooth focus. Clicks in at infinity and is accurate. Very sharp lens out to the corners. Comparable too my L glass and maybe even a touch better.
It's a nice lens, and it takes nice pictures, now. But when it arrived the focus was super out of calibration, and the manual is really unclear how the focus calibration works. If anyone's trying to calibrate it; you need a lot of movement to have any affect in the ring (like more than a quarter...
Bought this to do wide night astro images... Haven't had a chance to use it for that yet, but in general shooting the quality is great. It can even make for some fun creative shots... I have been shooting with it on a 5DmkIII... I have not had issues with the flairs that some report.
On the plus side it takes reasonably sharp pics at infinity, though you have to make sure that you set the focus to infinity rather than past it. Taking pictures of the inside of a room is difficult.
One filter at a time. You will get vignetting with two. I've had it for three weeks and I have put it through Rain and Sun works great in Low Light and has great minimum focusing distance..
I liked but in the end of the day I may would choose the 11mm version. Or both I think LOL
Build quality is superb. Smooth focus with clicks in at infinity. Very sharp lens out to the corners. Distortion is very well controlled. Little bit of vignetting but not bad. Easily fixable in post processing, if necessary.
Let me begin by saying the 15mm Irix Firefly is a great lens for the money you are paying. I enjoyed the crisp images that this lens produced. The lens had a vignetting effect as the aperture got around 3.0. This was a great lens though.
