chose this to replace my works ancient 1990s hp designjet 650c, which still used paralell ports and had to be hooked up to a desktop as a print server. This new one doesnt need a pc anymore, it has its own networking built in and even has its own webpage to configure settings, like a router does.
When it works, its great. But for some reason it likes to try and print to the 11x17 tray when I have never used that before, don't have paper in it, and am printing a 18x24 or 24x36 set of drawings. Then it always says there is an error and the printer needs my attention.
The plotter occupies less space the its predicessor. It was easy to setup and connect to our network. The unit prints fast and quiet. We appreciate the versatility it offers with the addition of the letter size cartridge. The onboard memory is sufficient to recall the last print job; this ia a plus.
I guess for the price it works very good, i would recommend a better performance one, the print quality could be better and the reason i'm a bit disappointed at this plotter is that it goes all nuts when i try to print big file size jobs, the internal memory can't handle those, any vector work i try...
It's been a year since the purchase of this machine, and so far it has been a great investment. No problems, at all. Overall this year, this machine has saved me money, because i don't have to run to staples and have my plans print out.
Here is a warning to anyone considering this printer (and potentially any other large format HP printer) for banner printing. This printer will not pause in the middle of a print job when one of the ink cartridges is depleted.
Our company loves this platter. It replaces am HP plotter that we had had for about 10 years. The circuit board had gone bad in it. This plotter prints beautifully and actually takes up about a third less space than the old plotter. Also it prints 11 x 17 paper and has a feeder for that paper size.
after a couple years I had to spend $550.00 (bought from HP) a 'printhead replacement kit' it has FAILED again . VERY fragile . and HP charges about 10x too much for their ink . I will NEVER waste my money on ANYTHING HP ever again . ...
This printer is a medocre large format printer. The biggest problem is they actually can lock out any functionality if you use generic inks. I tried to use their brand after getting nowhere and having the printer completly go offline from one generic color ink.
When my mate of 15 years, HP-DJ450-C, was forcefully removed from my clutches after it's passing, i was told to plot onward (..all of course within the office budget). Then, along came this HP-DJ520 24"...
