The HiFiMAN HE-1000 V2 represents the re-update to the original HiFiMAN HE-1000 headphones which have previously won many accolades within audiophile circles. Like its predecessor, the V2 is a reference-sounding headphone with outstanding detail retrieval and soundstage production.
The HiFiMAN HE-1000 V2 is the newest über-high-end offering from the company that spawned the newest generation of high-end planar magnetic headphones. The HE-1000 V2 shares most of its DNA with the V1, but there are several significant updates to pads, cable, and headband.
The HiFiMAN HE1000 V2 Planar Magnetic Headphones are a damn fine pair of cans, full stop. Just like their forerunner, they remain one of the finest pair of non-electrostatic headsets that I have ever heard and will continue to be a reference point to judge other headphones in this class by.
Back when I owned a modified Denon D5000, I went to a local hi-fi store and demoed a Stax system. I almost bought it on the spot, only hesitating because it would have been the most expensive audio purchase I'd ever made.

- Precise imaging, great comfort, fantastic detail retrieval.

- Needs a correspondingly expensive system to get the best results. Bass a bit lacking in quantity to be ideal. Materials a bit cheap-feeling. Expensive
I was looking for a destination headphone and had been considering headphones like the new Elear, LC-X, Ether, etc. Definitely looking for an open back headphone as I wanted the air and sense of space these provide. I saw the HE1000 on sale and jumped at the opportunity.
