The Garmin Instinct Solar is a tangibly improved version of the original, and plenty of people will find the benefits of the $100 premium easy to quantify. The battery life and advanced power modes are superb, the GPX navigation and hiking tracking excellent.

Big battery improvements via solar, More control over battery, Clear screen
The Garmin Instinct Solar stands out for its seemingly endless battery life with solar panels that charge while you're on the go. It has all the basic features of a GPS watch, with integration into the Garmin ecosystem.

Solar rechargeable, good feature set, all functionality is built into the watch without the need for the apps

Buttons are easy to push accidentally, can't use a screen protector, small screen, can't modularize the features like other Garmin products
“The Garmin Instinct is a good adventure smartwatch at a great price.”
From the dial to the strap, Garmin Instinct smartwatch is absolutely rugged and shock-proof. They are not afraid of external adversity due to the moisture-proof shock-resistant case and sensors. The watch has built-in flagship activity trackers.
Backcountry fitness junkies take note, the Garmin Instinct Solar has more data than you will ever need, and enough battery to go the distance (as long as you’ve got sun).
Everything about the Garmin Instinct promotes necessity over enjoyment, from the simplified design and stripped back UI to the customisable format of the screens. The core focus of the watch is by far the navigation, and there's a steep learning curve to get to grips with it all.

Bought this primarily as a replacement for older Garmin 310XT. I loved the fact that it covered treadmill, indoor rowing, running, biking and hiking. Unfortunately, I set weekly goals based on calories burned and miles covered, and this device has a fatal flaw that makes it near useless.
Being my first Garmin, I wasn't sure I would like it or get the hang of using it. In fact I was going to send it back. But after taking the time to read the manuals and learn the watch. I love it. I like the way it links to my phone. It does everything I want. After learning it, I'm very happy.
This watch is awesome for running, walking, hiking, etc. Altimeter, and mileage is pretty darn accurate too. Also offers steps without GPS. Great watch. Only complaint, is you can only get one day of GPS use before having to recharge. If you do not use the GPS you get approx.
The watch is very light, all functions work well. I just felt difficult to start an exercise (I mean the chronograph), but its a matter of time to adapt to the buttons and where is each thing.

Ease of use with the watch. It didn’t take long to figure out how it all works.

The buttons on the right side that are used to stop and start activities can get accidentally pressed which can pause the activity you are doing. It had happened just once but I am more aware of this now so keep checking my watch to ensure it hasn’t paused or saved the activity.
Great watch if looking for a minimal type smart watch. No touch screen or color face but loaded with features. Battery lasts an insane amount of days. Switch from a Samsung watch where I would get a day or maybe 2 on a charge and it was only 1.5 years old. Garmin has battery life figured out!
i bought this for fathers day. I wasn't sure my husband would like it. As soon as he opened the box he loved the look. It is a bit time consuming to set it up and learn all the features. He is 66 years old and i found him going back to check how to use different functions.
I just recieved my new Instinct. Fits like a glove and has all the features I wanted and then some. It has worked flawlessly so far and gives the wearer a ton off quick useful info. I will admit it took me about 3 days to figure out ALL the different modes and buttons and how to use them properly.

Solid watch. Does everything I need it to do and more. Looks good and battery lasts a long time (nowhere near the suggested 14 days though).

The pictures online are deceptive of the colour. Graphite is much lighter than it appears online. I will likely get a black strap in the future.
