The biggest draw of the Forerunner 645 Music lies in the name: It’s Garmin’s first wearable capable of storing music. That means musical motivation for days without the hassle of carrying a bulky smartphone.
-
+
Offline music playback, Extensive fitness tracking capabilities, Doesn’t require a tethered smartphone for its full features, 5- to 7-day battery life
-
-
Expensive, Buckle showed wear and tear after two weeks
The Garmin Forerunner 645 Music is an excellent standalone fitness tracker for outdoor exercise enthusiasts looking for a wealth of metrics.
-
+
Excellent accuracy in testing. Lots of useful sensors. Advanced fitness metrics. Holds up to 500 songs. Swimproof design. Long battery life.
-
-
Expensive. Steep learning curve.
There's no doubt that the Forerunner 645 Music is a powerful device and one that could intrigue all types of users—runners or not. It has all of the stellar features of the Vivoactive 3 along with additional run-tracking capabilities and music storage.
-
+
Attractive, lightweight design., NFC for Garmin Pay., Good battery life., Garmin Express makes it easy to save music tracks to the device., Good heart-rate monitor and GPS., Extra run stats: training effect, training load, and anaerobic training effect.
-
-
No side swipe function., Sport profiles confusingly mixed with non-exercise apps., iHeartRadio Connect app isn't ready yet., Subpar on-watch organization of custom workouts., A tad too expensive.
The Garmin Forerunner 645 Music is another strong addition to the growing stable of Garmin wearables. Like a halfway house between the more smarwatch-like Vivoactive 3 and serious sports watches like the Forerunner 935, it tries to offer a happy medium.
-
+
Slim, good looking design, Easy to use music player, Best of Garmin's new features
-
-
Streaming music support not live, Garmin Pay not live, Music transfer only by computer
With better offline playlist integration, Garmin's pricey Forerunner 645 Music would be practically perfect for athletes.
-
+
Stores up to 500 songs, Tracks everything from cycling to swimming to recreational activities, Offers advanced metrics, Stylish design
-
-
Expensive, Streaming integration not active at launch
This is Garmin’s first ever GPS sport watch with onboard storage for music and we like it, but it’s not an absolute home run. If, however, you’re comparing it to prior running watches from Garmin, it definitely has more features and there is a lot to like about it.
-
+
Music storage (up to 500 songs), Compact, lightweight design, Wrist HRM with advanced running dynamics, Supports running, indoor swimming, cycling, and more, Activity and sleep tracking + Garmin Pay + smart features
-
-
Expensive, No open-water swimming, Limited battery life, especially with HRM and music running, Not the most durable design (compared to fenix series)
Those who are after the 645 Music are probably most excited about the music. Even outside of the music addition, the FR 645 is a pretty exciting watch from Garmin. It has many of the best features found on premium watches like the FR 935 and Fenix 5, but it costs less.
The Forerunner 645 Music is a watch that can track a huge variety of sports and look good while doing it. However, the headline music playback feature feels a bit half-baked and the battery life isn't as good as we've experienced on other Garmin watches.
-
+
Lovely design, Rapid GPS, Recent Spotify support
-
-
Poor battery life
The Forerunner 645 adds music, but it's currently limited by a lack of support from music streaming services. That dulls the headline feature of what is otherwise a great fitness tracker, with smartwatch-beating battery life and plenty of customisation. It's a little expensive too.
-
+
Compact design, Comfortable to wear, Excellent sports and activity tracking, Can use Bluetooth headphones
-
-
Music not fully realised, Garmin Pay not widely supported, Battery life could be better, Price a little high
A reliable tracker, offering OK music playback.
-
+
Local music playback, Indestructable design, Comfortable fit, Excellent multi-sport tracking
-
-
Doesn't support common streaming services, Below-average battery
I am not always looking for the latest thing, was happily still running w. forerunner 15. But spouse got the music version of this device, and just seemed so thrilled that I thought I would upgrade. Now that I have it, I love all the extra bells and whistles.
-
+
Easy to use, multiple functions, wireless sync, hard buttons, good battery, looks nice
-
-
Really expensive
so far I love it. This is my first smart watch. wanted it for the heart rate and pacing. Like that it gives me an estimated VO2max and tells me how long to recover. I am a push it too hard type a personality.
I upgraded from the Vivoactive HR to this watch specifically for the music. I was tired of carrying my phone during a run. What I discovered is that the Forerunner provides much more fitness functionality than the Vivoactive HR.
My bf loves this watch. He uses it to monitor his physical activity and gets missed call, email, and text notifications.
This is my second running watch from Garmin. The first was a very early edition. Decided to upgrade and loved the versatility of this watch. I have not tried out the music yet but look forward to using that feature as well.
I was so excited about the prospect of ditching my ipod and headphones and moving to wireless headphones with this watch. Unfortunately, this watch has been a total disappointment in that regard. It loses connection to my headphone during my run and in the process, shuts off my watch.
This watch does it all and is deadly accurate. Took it out on a few familiar trails that I know the exact mileage and elevation of and it has been spot on. Was surprised to find it also tracks a range of other sports and is not limited just to running.
