I've purchased G-Drive for editing for at least the last five years. They are sturdy and reliable and I have never had a problem with them.
My late 2015 iMac was pathetically slow. And always has been. I studied all of the alternative external hard drives and decided G-Drive was a good choice. Bottomline: This drive did the trick. Speed is now outstanding. It's also very quiet and extremely very sturdy construction.
Love my G-Drive. Using it as photography backup device.
Macbook Pro picked it up immediately. It's quite enough and very fast. I'd recommend this to anyone. I'm a long, long time user of WD, this is the first non WD in many years.
I use the 2TB model for editing in Premiere Pro, Mixing in Adobe Audition, and I've even used it for a few After Effects Compositions. Works pretty great alongside my 27 5k iMac (2015 model max spec) My only complaint is that as I'm editing/mixing and not really navigating through the drive, it...
Really Like the very reliable G-tech hard drives. Have many and all have been reliable.
I use the 4TB G-DRIVE with Thunderbolt with Carbon Copy Cloner-2 and it's perfect. Fast and reliable. My only regret would be not getting 6TB. I have recommended this to others.
I'm using this as a primary backup solution for iMac. Secondary backups are always recommended. The drive was plug and play from the start and works well with Time Machine. This is a solid drive, metal build and good heat distribution.
Great drive. Reasonable cost, high capacity and flexibility, good reviews from the tech magazines. The faint hum when it is running is certainly tolerable. My only mild complaint is the white light on the front (under the G) that indicates the device is on, and it gets brighter when it is running.
Give me a lot of trouble using the final Cut 7. Now I only use it to back up my files but not for work.
