I purchased this drive not paying attention to the fact that Thunderbolt has different generations and that this drive is actually older Thunderbolt 1 technology while the iMac which I bought last summer has Thunderbolt 3 ports.
I don’t know what to say right now. Bought this item to back up my information. Things makes a loud noise and constant ticking sound. Then turned around and stopped responding with all my information that I’ve backed up. I’ve lost everything.
I accidentally purchased the Thunderbolt 1 version instead of the Thunderbolt 2 version. It's loud and hasn't worked well with my Mac. I've unplugged it and will buy something better.

I purchase a lot of hard drives for work. This is the first one in years to die after 3 months. Fortunately, the data was backed up. But since I'm passed the very short waranty window, I'm out $300. No more G-Technology drives for me.

My late 2015 iMac was pathetically slow. And always has been. I studied all of the alternative external hard drives and decided G-Drive was a good choice. Bottomline: This drive did the trick. Speed is now outstanding. It's also very quiet and extremely very sturdy construction.
Macbook Pro picked it up immediately. It's quite enough and very fast. I'd recommend this to anyone. I'm a long, long time user of WD, this is the first non WD in many years.
I use the 2TB model for editing in Premiere Pro, Mixing in Adobe Audition, and I've even used it for a few After Effects Compositions. Works pretty great alongside my 27 5k iMac (2015 model max spec) My only complaint is that as I'm editing/mixing and not really navigating through the drive, it...
