this thing is real funny. starts whirring and lighting up and has a slight vibration with a fan going inside. no idea what its for but i spent a lot of money on it. it just sits on my kitchen counter and I turn it on while I'm cooking. I love you G-tech.
Its FAST. I ran the BlackMagic Design Disk test. The write speed is just as good as a recently purchased USB 3.0 external SSD (350 MB/s) the read speed is 100 MB/s higher (450MB/s). That's faster than my 2013 MacBook Pro internal SSD.
Never seen a drive move so fast and quiet when I'm recording. I have been using g drives for 5 years on FireWire and I'm still satisfied.
Fastest drive I've ever used at a reasonable price. Family photo and video archive fast enough to play video in real time.
Overall good. Yes, as advertised, it is close to SSD speed and best thing about the drive is the speed. Size is not big. And relatively quiet, was never loud besides some fan during start up.
Absolutely abysmal. I bought this drive, paying more than originally planned, needing something that was reliable and performant. Within 6 months the firmware and fan unit failed meaning I couldn't access the (still working) hard drives inside.
Used for television productions. Works great.
Died during first time machine backup. Returned. Really shocked, had G drive mini for years with NO problems. This model didn't make it through one back up!
