In a move that will no doubt please X-E2 owners, Fuji has already released a firmware update that brings many of the X-E2S's advantages, such as the changes to the focusing system and the electronic shutter, to the X-E2.

  • +

Very good image quality, Very good EVF, Great noise control

  • -

Shot-to-shot times could be better, Needs a tilting/adjustable LCD, Some rivals offer 4K video

The Fujifilm X-E2 adds Wi-Fi and improves upon the X-E1's video capabilities, but it can't keep up with our Editors' Choice in focus or burst shooting speed.

  • +

Excellent high ISO images. 7fps continuous shooting. Sharp OLED EVF. Excellent control system. Integrated flash. Wi-Fi. 1080p60 video with mic input.

  • -

A little slow to focus. Integrated Wi-Fi doesn't support NFC. Raw capture limited to ISO 6400. Pricey.

The Fujifilm X-E2 is a very well equipped for the enthusiast photographer it’s out to target and in many ways it’s the camera we wish the X-E1 were all along. Naturally, as with most replacements, Fujifilm has successfully addressed the concerns we picked up on in our review of the X-E1 , these...

  • +

Premium finish; Desirable design; Solid build quality; High screen resolution; Excellent image quality from the 16.3MP X-Trans CMOS II sensor; Quality of the kit lens; Exposure compensation range to -/+3EV

  • -

No Touchscreen; Limited Wi-fi functionality; Basic Fujifilm camera app; Slightly dated looking menu system; AF-assist beam easily obstructed

The X-E2 is a highly capable enthusiast-focused camera capable of producing excellent images. Direct control dials and plenty of customization make for an engaging shooting experience, and its output is impressive. Wi-Fi and in-camera raw conversion make it easy to share images.

  • +

Classic camera appearance and layout makes you want to take pictures, Excellent JPEGs with good color, little need to use raw most of the time, Reliable metering and AWB systems, Impressive image quality at all ISO settings - good resolution and low noise, DR modes make it easy to use camera's...

  • -

Disappointing movie quality, JPEGs appear to over-process skin tones at high ISO, Interaction of ISO and DR modes potentially confusing, Q-menu prioritizes obscure settings at the expense of arguably more useful ones, Face Detection mode poorly integrated and not very successful, No wireless flash...

We’re fans of the X-series, even with the flaws noted here. Colors and white balance are very accurate, with a richness, tone, and depth that are quite impressive. Fujifilm wants a premium price for its better models and we can’t begrudge the company for doing so.

I loved this camera. Adored it. Took many, many photos with it. Why do I speak in the past tense? I bought the Fuji X-T1 a few months ago and in every way it’s better. The guy I just sold it to is very happy with it.

  • +

Easy access to full manual controls, Excellent IQ in Auto modes, Kit lens is top-quality with excellent glass and solid build, 1.5X APS-C X-Trans sensor provides razor-sharp images, EVF viewfinder gives you access to horizon level and histogram as well as 100% coverage of image, Wide variety of film...

Expensive...but the Canon 70D, which has a slightly smaller sensor, is also in this price range, Best XF-mount lenses not available yet (but coming soon), Tripod mount hole off-center and QR plates will block access to the battery/memory card door, Dials easy to knock out of place while taking the...

The Fuji X-E2 follows the X-E1 with another unique X-Trans CMOS II sensor with 16 MP and no anti-aliasing filter, this time adding fast Phase-Detect autofocus on-sensor. The X-E2 delivers image-quality that rivals APS-C DSLRs.

  • +

Extremely low image noise up to ISO 6400, Superb dynamic-range, Good sharpness at low ISO, Very reliable metering, Fast autofocus, Natural rendition of image colors, Very good automatic white-balance, Excellent EVF, Plenty of direct controls, Instant video response, Excellent build quality

  • -

ISO 800+ soft from noise-reduction, Unusable ISO 25600, Below average shot-to-shot speed, Not Exposure-Priority, Slow continuous AF, EVF and LCD lag continuous drive, EVF diopter easy to accidentally change, Short battery-life, Soft aperture detents With all current XF-mount lenses

The Fujifilm X-E2 is a declaration of love lovers old fashioned photography. The build quality and controls, one of the images and also the kit lens are simply outstanding, and fear few comparisons in the price range of approximately $1,399.

  • +

Excellent image quality, Fast AF single, Deep but intuitive controls, Excellent build quality, Valuable kit lens, Electronic viewfinder quality.

  • -

Continuous AF still performs poorly, No HDR mode, Abundant size for a mirrorless. Video mode not finished.

this is a wonderful camera. i use a canon 6d and 7d mark ii with a variety of L-series lenses for my professional work. i was tired of lugging around all of my gear for just every day shots, especially of my kids. up until now i'd been using my iPhone camera for every day use.

i bought this camera after many solid reviews and longing for something lighter and a good as my Canon 50D. Well I am not disappointed. The Fuji XE 2 is a camera that lets me photograph without having to feel all the extra bulk of a DSLR. The electronic viewfinder is a dream come true.

I am using the camera with the fujifilm leica-m adapter and a summicron 35/2 and an Elmarit 90/2.8 (two lenses that were sleeping in my drawers for many years). Using a 'grip belt' that allows me to hold and manipulate the camera with my right arm.
