Fujifilm's popular mirrorless line is powered by their excellent X-Trans sensors--the X-A2 offers an affordable entry point for less than $550.
-
+
Solid image quality, Easy to use, Features for price, Tilting LCD screen
-
-
Plastic body, No viewfinder, No macro mode, Speed is just so-so, Poor video autofocus in low light
The Fujifilm X-A2 mirrorless compact system camera, the successor to the X-A1, uses a standard APS-C sized image sensor rather than the X-Trans CMOS II sensor found in other Fujifilm cameras like the X-T1 and X-E1.
The Fujifilm X-A2 is a very capable mirrorless camera, but it's a little pricey for an entry-level model.
-
+
Solid image quality. 5.6fps burst shooting. Attractive design. Sharp kit lens. Built-in flash. Selfie LCD. Wi-Fi.
-
-
A little slow to focus. Doesn't support add-on EVF. No remote control via Wi-Fi. Video limited to 1080p30. No mic input.
The Fujifilm X-A2 offers very high image quality, while giving relatively inexperienced photographers plenty of easy-to-use features as they're migrating from a beginner-level camera to this mirrorless interchangeable lens camera.
-
+
Very good image quality, RAW and JPEG formats available, Plenty of automatic and manual control shooting options, Good performance times overall, Can shoot at up to 5.6 frames per second in burst mode with the right lens attached, Hot shoe allows for attaching an external flash, High-quality LCD...
-
-
Limited movie recording to 30 frames per second, Back panel control buttons could be a little bigger, Mode dial could be smaller, as it has too many options, Touchscreen LCD would be nice to have in this type of camera, No viewfinder option available to attach to hot shoe
The Fuji X-A2 fits below the entry-level X-M1 Fuji X-M1 . It features a typical 16 megapixels APS-C CMOS sensor with Bayer and Anti-Alias filters, plus a second generation EXR II processor which captures full-resolution images at 5.6 FPS and 1080p HD video at 30 FPS.
-
+
Extremely low image noise until ISO 1600, Good dynamic-range, Nicely saturated colors, Good LCD visibility and viewing angle, High number of external controls, Efficient ergonomics, Solid build-quality
-
-
Tendency to over-expose, General image softness, Slow autofocus, Below average shot-to-shot speeds, 1s Delay to start video capture, Poor AWB accuracy, Not Exposure-Priority, Dials moves too easily
There's strong competition at this price level, and the X-A2's features seem dated (no 1080/60p video, for example, let alone 4K). But Fujifilm's photographs continue to impress, and you won't miss the extra megapixels of other mirrorless cameras once you examine the X-A2's output.
-
+
Excellent still image quality, Lightweight and compact, Fast response and autofocus, Flip-up LCD for selfies.
-
-
Occasional glare on LCD, No touch screen, Poor video quality.
Fujifilm has turned heads with the retro styling of its X-series, but not everyone needs—or can afford—an X100T or X-T1. With the X-A2 , Fuji is courting a broader user base, delivering a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera with a 16–55mm kit lens to market for just $550.
-
+
Good battery life; tilting display; video recording in Fuji film modes; close focusing with kit lens.
-
-
Insubstantial build; memory card difficult to dislodge; continuous shooting slower than comparable models.
The Fujifilm X-A2 mirrorless camera does a great job of hitting this area, as it has a strong mixture of features that will appeal to beginner and intermediate.photographers, as well as a reasonable price point.
While many brands populate their line-ups with a vast array of entry-level MILCs, Fujifilm’s series of professional cameras has always been the backbone of the company’s business strategy, strength and success.
The entry-level X-A gets a selfie makeover.
I purchased this little gem to replace a Lumix compact that, while good in its own right, always left me wishing that I'd put the Nikon in my bag. But I dislike cycling with heavy cameras and even walking all day with an SLR outfit is a drag. But what can equal SLR quality and weigh less?
