Absurdly easy to manage. Truly almost no proximity effect and sounds great.
Best sounding dynamic mic for voice-over work. Warm sound, low noise & internal pop filter make for a robust and pleasing sound at a great price. Because it's a dynamic the output is low but it is very low noise so it is okay to goose the gain and still get clean sound Ostensibly good for miking...
This thing is great. It holds its own on vocals...but use it more for instruments than anything else. Has a great sound off axis on a bass amp cone, and I always put it on the top head of a floor tom.
Industry standard for a reason. I used this mic when I was a DJ, so when I wanted to recreate a studio experience for my students to create air-check recordings, I stuck with what I knew worked.
Quality item. Functioned as expected. Fit my needs.
I traded in my precious Rode NT2000 for something that could stand up to the high heat/ humidity conditions of SE Asian summers, and be more forgiving of the incidental noises of urban living. The RE20 has performed magnificently.
As advertised, this microphone exhibits less proximity effect than your basic cardioid microphone. This has a welcome benefit when used close up with string instruments such as acoustic guitars. In fact, this might now be my go-to microphone for string instruments.
Although this microphone got it's fame as a Broadcast/Voice Over mic the RE-20's construction makes it useful in many different applications. Bass Amps, Kick Drums, & Upright Bass's all are wonderful applications for this Mic.
We do voiceovers once a week for videos which appear on YouTube, so we needed a solid cardioid for under $. I am extremely happy with the RE20. Good bass and very warm sound. I used the same mic when I was in radio so I knew it was durable and great for a wide range of voices.
Clear, yet forgiving in voice work.
