Canon's EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM lens covers an incredible zoom range and works with full-frame cameras, but its price and just-ok optics make it a tough sell.

10.7x zoom range. Full-frame compatibility. Reasonably sharp through most of its range. Includes lens hood and tripod collar.

Expensive. Noticeable distortion. Soft edges. Push-pull zoom design. Some color fringing.
Canon EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM looks pretty interesting on paper - extreme zoom coverage will certainly appeal someone who does not want to own/carry multiple lenses for use in different shooting conditions.
The Canon EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM Lens is the right choice for those times when you need a wide range of focal lengths but only one lens can go with you and both lens and image quality cannot be compromised . The 28-300 L is the best Canon do-everything-with-one-lens lens available.
The Canon EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6 USM L IS is an impressive piece of engineering. However, its immense zoom range doesn't come without compromises - especially on a high resolution full format DSLR.
My experience owning this lens reflects both the Top Positive and Top Critical reviews at the same time.I was lucky enough to 'inherit' this lens a few years ago and tried using it a few times on my 7D, but somehow everything looked soft no matter what I did, even in broad daylight.
I highly recommend this Lens product. I bought it when it originally came out. I used it for several years and sold it to a friend, I recently bought another unit when I realized I had been missing having the particular versatility that only this heavy lens can offer.
This is one of my all-time favorite Canon lenses. I know its size intimidates a lot of people, but it is great for events and weddings. Shoots well wide open. Smooth Leica-like color and tonal transitions make it ideal for shooting people and travel.

Amazing range, great color, great build, very effective IS, definite "L" quality.

Not cheap, you know it is a handful -- but less than all those FL as primes!
it is a versatile Lens , good if you travel , so you can cover a wide focal , instead of carrying different lenses. It is scary to people that you want to snap shot them. A little Heavy , but doesn't bother me at all. It feels like a Tank . and makes you proud.

Heavy and scary to people, Heavy, Lens Creep
Great product. Lens is a bit heavy. However once you get used to it, it does not matter. I have this as a single lens for all my indoor and outdoor pictures and the clarity of the picture is amazing !
The 28-300mm has so many functions. I've had this lens for almost 2 years with no regrets. I travel throughout the Columbia Gorge and have captured amazing outdoor shots. It isn't the lightest lens but the range is so exceptional you can get away with taking the one lens.

Spend the last 3 months touring Europe with my 5D Mark ii with 2 zooms and a prime. I got grew increasingly weary of 1).trying to guess which lens to bring each morning, 2). bringing the wrong lens and missing half of the shots or 3), bringing 2 or 3 lenses and fumbling around trying to change them...

From 'hither' to 'yon', this thing is remarkably flexible and incredibly sharp (a little tricky wide open at 300).

NONE (I read a lot of reviews where the biggest complaint was weight. Come of folks, this thing probably doesn't weight any more than that water bottle you lugged around all day. Go the gym.
2 stage IS, fast auto focus, & quality components justify the added weight & price. I heartily recommend this lens to my friends.

In my opinion there's no cons associated with this lens.
Great lens, with an optimum aperture and focal distance. Incredible performance in sports photos.
