Canon EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM is a very solid ultra wide angle prime, easily one of the best ultra wide primes in native Canon EF mount. This does not mean that the lens is without any flaws - vignetting, flare, color fringing and distortion are all present to varying degree and can cause some...

The Canon EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM Lens is currently my favorite ultra-wide angle EF lens . For many years, my preferred full-frame-capable ultra-wide angle lens was the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L USM Lens and then its replacement, the even better (at the wide end at least) Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM...

If you were reading this in order to decide whether an upgrade from the current Canon EF 14mm Æ’/2.8 is worth it, the answer is an unequivocal yes: Canon seems to have improved just about everything that is physically possible to improve upon with this lens.

An ultra-wide angle lens, which sports a fast maximum aperture of f/2.8 and silent focusing with full-time manual focus override. This lens certainly isn't inexpensive, being available for around £1850. In this review we'll take a look at how it performs and whether the premium price is justified.

A full-frame 14mm f/2.8 has been an anchor of Canon's premier L-series lens line for a quarter-century. This new upgrade, Version II ($2,199, street), has a second aspheric element and two elements of ultra-low-dispersion glass.

Overall, this lens performs pretty well, and is capable of producing excellent sharpness in the centre of the frame, and very good sharpness towards the edges. Unfortunately it is very expensive, especially for an ultra-wide angle prime lens that may see limited use.

  • +

Great build quality, Excellent sharpness in the centre, Relatively lightweight

  • -

Expensive, especially when compared to alternatives, Sharpness towards the edges of the frame could be better

The Canon EF 14 mm f/2.8L USM II lens comes with a price tag of at least 8,000 PLN. The rival Samyang 14 mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC is available for a bit more than 1,000 PLN. The difference in price is so huge that we can speak here about a clash between a Goliath and a David.

  • +

excellent build quality,, very good image quality in the frame centre,, low longitudinal chromatic aberration,, not very bothersome distortion on the APS-C sensor,, slight vignetting on the small sensor,, fast and noiseless autofocus.

  • -

weak image quality on the edge of full frame in the wide range of apertures,, distinct lateral chromatic aberration even near frame centre,, noticeable distortion on full frame,, pronounced astigmatism,, visible coma in the corners of full frame,, high vignetting on full frame,, no possibility of...

The Canon EF 14mm f/2.8 USM L II is an impressive lens both in terms of optical performance as well as mechanical quality. It provides an exceedingly sharp center resolution combined with very good borders/corners all the way up to f/11.

The high price tag is likely to deter amateur photographers from investing in this lens. However, it will be appreciated by many professionals, notably landscape and architectural photographers who are looking for wide field-of-view coverage with minimal distortion.

This is a great lens. Its light enough to hand-hold and still get sharp images. I own a Canon 16-35mm L so I am able to see that the extra 2mm makes a big difference in what you're able to capture. This lens gives you a unique perspective with your images.

I really want to give this lens 5 stars, but it's corner sharpness is just not good enough for a perfect score. It's not as sharp as some other Canon prime lenses, but it's more difficult to make a super sharp lens at such a wide angle. It's still sharper than the 16-35mm L.

This lens is very different in use than the zoom lenses that cover or come close to this range. I prefer H sensor cameras, but also use the C and 'FF' sensor cameras as well. I like this lens very much on H and C sensor cameras, but I am at the toe of the learning curve on how to maximize the...

A stellar performer for architecture and that wwwiiiiddddeee perspective which brings out the creativity. Very solid build quality. I often end up going for my 17-40 instead though when I need glare taken off water ie streams.

  • +

Very sharp, great colors, little distortion, built like a tank

  • -

The lens coating helps but its no polarizer

I wish it wasn't so pricey, but I don't regret this purchase one bit. I've rented this lens so much and decided to finally commit and purchase my own. Great super sharp lens for shooting in tight spaces.

This lens is really great for capturing unique close-up action sport photos (skiing/skateboarding/mtn biking), tight architectural spaces (real estate), or wrap-around landscapes like a tight canyon wall to wall (great for Bryce Canyon.)

A stunning wide angle landscape lens on APS-C. APS-C reviews on this lens are rare. I'm using this lens on the new 80D. 22.5mm after the crop factor is perfect for wide landscape work. Images are edge to edge sharp from f/8 to f/16 and barrel distortion is minimal.
