The Canon PowerShot SX260 HS' wider, longer lens, a few much-needed design tweaks, and excellent photo quality add up to one pretty great compact megazoom.

  • +

The Canon PowerShot SX260 HS has shooting modes for every type of photographer from casual to advanced, a useful long zoom lens with excellent image stabilization, and overall excellent photo and video quality for a compact megazoom.

  • -

The SX260 HS' menus and controls can take some getting used to, it's got a short battery life, and photos get noticeably softer-looking indoors or in low light.

The SX260 HS fills a very small niche. Yes, it’s a point-and-shoot, but its $350 price tag means that the extras you’re paying for have to be specifically worth it to the buyer.

  • +

Great, Solid, Good-looking build, Easy to navigate physical and in-camera user interface, Loaded with features: filters, GPS, manual, presets, pop-up flash, etc.

  • -

Expensive, Image quality isn’t the best for the price

The Canon PowerShot SX260 HS delivers an impressive 20x zoom ratio and very good image quality in a compact package. Integrated GPS is a boon for geotaggers, but the camera's video prowess and high ISO performance aren't best in class.

  • +

Compact. Sharp, long zoom lens. Integrated GPS.

  • -

1080p video captured limited to 24fps. Loss of detail at high ISOs. Priced on the high side.

Canon's PowerShot SX260 HS is a well-designed compact travel zoom that produces photos that hold up well against the competition. It has a solid set of features for the point-and-shoot crowd, though serious photographers may find some annoyances.

  • +

Very good photo quality for the compact ultra zoom category, Packs a 20X, 25 - 500 mm lens into a compact and stylish body, Optical image stabilization; camera will select the appropriate IS mode for the situation, High resolution 3-inch LCD with very good outdoor and low light visibility, Built-in...

If you can swing the $300+ price point of the Canon PowerShot SX260 HS, beginning and intermediate photographers will find quite a few nice options with this camera. The 20x optical zoom lens is a great feature, and color accuracy in images is very good.

  • +

Good mix of easy-to-use features and manual setting options for beginners and intermediates, 20x zoom lens is great to see in such a thin camera, LCD is very bright and sharp, easily can be viewed in sunlight outdoors, Color accuracy quality is very good, Good mix of advanced features, when compared...

Camera's autofocus can be a little slow in low light, Overall response times can be a little sluggish, Mode dial has a few odd choices on it, Seems like there's some redundancy in the easy-to-use modes, Battery can drain quickly with GPS activated, Experienced photographers will want more control...

The Canon PowerShot SX260 HS (along with its GPS-lacking twin, the PowerShot SX240) represents a sizeable change over the compact travel-zoom models that Canon had in the past.

  • +

Very good image quality; surprisingly good lens quality, New design is much better: popup flash only comes up when needed, standard 4:3 ratio LCD, bigger buttons, small raised bump on the front for better grip, Scroll wheel is useful for adjusting settings, built-in GPS (though it only shows...

Better battery life would have been nice, LCD resolution could be higher and autofocus performance is just ‘average’, Weak flash, No automatic panorama mode, no HDR or dynamic range boost option, Limited GPS usefulness; no GPS location names/landmark database, No frame rate choices in movie mode; 30...

For under $500 the Canon Powershot SX260 does more than you’d expect. It has many unique features that set it aside from other similar priced models such as GPS and iFrame Video. It has the highest build quality and the highest quality materials.

The PowerShot SX260 HS ($349) is the latest compact travel zoom from Canon. The SX260 replaces the SX230 (one of my favorite travel zooms from last year) and its biggest feature is its wider, more powerful zoom lens.
