The PowerShot G7 X is without a doubt one of the best pocket cameras Canon has ever released. Good pictures, nice movies, a bright lens, and loads of adjustments make it an easy Editors’ Choice recommendation. It’s not perfect but it’s simply a great walking-around camera.

  • +

Excellent all-around pocket camera, Quality stills and movies, Bright 4.2x zoom

  • -

Weak battery life, Occasional focus miscues, No hot shoe

The Canon PowerShot G7 X would jump from very good to excellent if it could just pick up the pace.

  • +

The Canon PowerShot G7 X delivers excellent photo quality for its class, along with a fine lens and relatively streamlined shooting design.

  • -

Its performance and connectivity implemenation don't impress, and some people may miss the hot shoe.

8.0/10

The Canon Powershot G7 X combines a 20 megapixels 1" CMOS sensor and an ultra-bright zoom lens in a premium compact body. This lets it gather more light than almost any other fixed-lens camera and therefore produce cleaner images.

  • +

Low image-noise, Nice retention of details, Good dynamic-range, Nicely saturated colors, Reliable and consistent metering, Instant shutter-lag, Fast AF in bright light, Ultra-bright ultra-wide-angle lens, Class-leading shutter-speed range, Built-in 3-stop ND filter

  • -

Strong corner softness, Bluish cast in low-light, Slow AF in low-light, Poor shot-to-shot speed, No continuous drive RAW buffer, Accident-prone controls, Very short battery-life, Low LCD visibility in bright light

The Canon Powershot G7 X provides nearly every advanced feature that you can find on a digital camera in today's marketplace, including a touch screen LCD that tilts, NFC and Wi-Fi connectivity, and Canon's latest image processor chip that yields good response speeds.

  • +

Very good image quality, Camera works fast in JPEG shooting format, Can shoot in RAW, JPEG, or both formats at the same time, Fast f/1.8 lens included, High-quality LCD screen, LCD can tilt up to 180 degrees for self-portraits, Touch screen LCD is helpful feature for navigating settings, EV dial on...

  • -

Camera's performance in RAW format slows considerably, Camera is almost too thick to fit in a pocket, Optical zoom lens could be longer, Touch screen LCD isn't as useful as it could be because of older PowerShot menu design, LCD only swivels 180 degrees upward, doesn't rotate from side to side,...

With a time-tested 1" BSI-CMOS sensor and an impressive 24-100mm F1.8-2.8 lens, the PowerShot G7 X produces excellent quality photos. Although the ergonomics won't suit everyone and battery life isn't as good as some competitors, the G7X is well suited to low light and portrait photos, and its...

It’s extremely difficult to find fault with this camera. It’s probably the most complete snapper I’ve ever tested. Its portable, takes amazing photos in all environments and situations, it boasts some advanced features and looks great.

The PowerShot range is only one step down from their DSLR offerings; however they are small enough to fit in your pocket but are still extremely powerful units that have a large number of features that started out in their DSLR models.

I bought this camera a few months ago and totally love it! The focus of it is AMAZING, especially for such a small and compact size. The touch screen feature is fabulous and I love having a flip-up screen and the timer setting!

I primarily use this camera for taking video. The 1080 video at 60 frames per second looks beautiful and the sensor in this camera makes the picture look good in many, many lighting situations. The flippable screen is a very nice feature if you film or take pictures of yourself.

I carry this in my pocket instead of a large SLR. Quailty, functionality, it's all there.
