As a stills camera, the EOS M50 is a solid choice for photographers who want something more advanced than an entry-level camera, without going overboard. Its image quality, improved AF system and wireless connectivity are all impressive, and the new C-Raw format is a nice bonus.

  • +

People on the go who want something compact, with good connectivity and an accessible interface.

  • -

Anyone interested in 4K video capture. Those without easy access to a power outlet and don't want to carry a pocket full of batteries.

The Canon EOS M50 is an upper entry-level mirrorless camera with a 24 Megapixel APSC sensor, confident autofocus (for stills and 1080p video), small but crisp OLED viewfinder, excellent wireless, and becomes Canon's first mirrorless with 4k video, a fully-articulated touch-screen, eye detection and...

The Canon EOS M50 is the company's first affordable camera with 4K, but there are better mirrorless options out there for video.

  • +

Compact. 24MP APS-C image sensor. 10fps burst. 7.4fps with tracking. Wide focus coverage area. Vari-angle touch LCD. Mic input. EVF. Wi-Fi.

  • -

4K video is cropped with slower autofocus. Native lens options still limited. Limited shots when shooting Raw bursts.

Consider it. The Canon EOS M50 offers novices and enthusiasts a lot to like, but it's pricey and will need more Canon lenses to make it a truly full-fledged mirrorless system.

  • +

Very good photo quality, even in low light, Excellent electronic viewfinder, Easy-to-use swiveling touch screen, Lots of shooting modes, Includes hot-shoe for external flashes

  • -

Expensive, Relatively smaller lens selection, Video footage had some jitter, Less battery life than competition

The Canon EOS M50 may be the newest entry level camera in the M lineup for Canon, but it's already the most advanced. With features like 24.1MP APS-C CMOS image sensor, this little camera can record 4K (1.6x cropped) video, Dual Pixel CMOS autofocus with a whopping 96 focus points, and 720p HD video...

While the M50 is a solid little camera for the price, Canon has effectively set the bar for future DSLR and mirrorless camera offerings. Going forward, Canon can no longer justify the release of a DSLR or mirrorless camera without 4K video capture.

The EOS M50 is only the second EOS M model to have an electronic viewfinder; it’s the first to shoot 4K video; and it’s being sold at a pretty competitive price. This could be the EOS M camera where Canon has finally got the balance right.

Sometimes you don't want the sound of a camera interrupting the perfect moment, whether it's the bride saying "I do" or your newborn baby sleeping. Silent Mode helps you make sure your camera doesn't startle your subject by enabling capture with virtually no shutter sound.

At $899, Canon can market this as a great JPEG camera that will get shots in focus a good portion of the time, but nowhere as much as options from Olympus, Fujifilm, Panasonic and Sony.

We bought this camera as an upgrade from the Sony Alpha a6000 mainly because of the flip out screen and the mic jack, which the a6000 doesn't have (it has a tilt screen, though). The AF works great and the EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens offers a lot for both still photography and for videography...

Compact camera, kit lens is 3 1/2 stars, pictures are good, M mount requires an adapter to use other lenses, no in body stabilization leaving the stabilization weight penalty to be in the lenses or tripod or gimbal, It is a budget camera that will get you by if you are willing to work with it.

I bought this camera as a back up to my 7D. I like it because I can use my EF Lenses as well as my older FD lenses with the correct adapters. I also the the smallness of it for portability reasons.

I have been into Photography since 1959 and have used a wide range of camera equipment. I must say the Canon M50 is the most fun of all the the cameras I have owned, and there have been many of the past 60 years. It is lightweight and fun to use and carry.

I bought this about 2 weeks ago, after doing research for 3-4 months. I am not a new shooter, but this is my 3rd Canon, 60D & 70D. The camera for me, is my travel version as I am 72 and I wanted to go smaller, lighter, but didn't want to give up my options while in the field.

I have been a Canon user for many years now so getting that out of the way, I believe that the M50 is Canon comeback camera. Its what the next generation of bodies will be. Compact, has all the features you want at a great price. Best AF ever. Did I say best AF for the best price.

The kit lens is ok like any other kit lens not impressive but usable. The 4K crop is severe, but if you want this camera for 4K look somewhere else.

Very pleased with the camera. The picture quality is clear and sharp and the fact it all fits in the palm of your hand is amazing. Let me address some main criticisms that most reviewers complain about: of the1.) Battery.

    Poor battery life.
