Canon's mirrorless EOS M100 camera delivers SLR image quality and fast autofocus in a compact build with a touch LCD that makes it easy for anyone to use.

  • +

Very compact. 24MP APS-C image sensor. Fast autofocus. 6.1fps burst shooting. Tilting touch LCD. Built-in flash. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

  • -

No EVF or mic input. Not a lot of native lenses available. Touch interface will turn off pros and shutterbugs. 1080p video feels dated.

The EOS M100 is Canon's smallest and cheapest mirrorless interchangeable lens camera, and is perfectly suited to its intended audience of smartphone users looking to step up their photography game.

  • +

First-time camera buyers and beginning photographers interested in general photography, travel photographers, anyone looking for a small camera with great image quality.

  • -

Advanced photographers that want more direct control, video shooters that need a better feature set, and photographers that want to get into sports and action photography.

Canon's EOS M100 is aimed at those upgrading from phone photography and as such needs to be easy and familiar while delivering better results and providing enough room to grow. It manages all that very well.

The Canon EOS M100 is definitely targeted at those who've never used an advanced camera or perhaps even a point-and-shoot before. For those people, this mirrorless camera is an attractive choice if you're looking to step up the quality of your photos and video.

  • +

Variety of intuitive scene modes and settings, Lightweight and easy to use, Very good in low light and challenging lighting situations, Responsive swiveling touch-screen LCD, Relatively inexpensive

  • -

No electronic viewfinder, Lacks 4K video, No hot shoe for external flash, Smaller lens selection than what other mirrorless cameras offer

As time goes on, we’re seeing the lines be blurred between different camera types. The M100 blurs these lines even further. It’s a camera that is capable of producing professional grade images, but still has all the simplicity of a point and shoot.

Canon has been playing catch up in recent years since brands like Fujifilm and Sony have become competitive with their mirrorless cameras. Not to be outdone, Canon has been improving its mirrorless camera line, and the EOS M100 is a proof to Canon wanting to have a share in the mirrorless market.

In the past, the focus had always been on DSLRs, the cash cow of the Japanese camera maker. Then, there’s the fear of cannibalising existing product lines, which has always held back Canon as well as rival Nikon.

While it might be seen as unimportant to the target market (snapshooters looking to upgrade), the EOS M100/15-45mm combo has a few critical drawbacks for serious photographers. Firstly, the lack of a built-in EVF will always be a major barrier to its acceptance as a serious enthusiast's or pro...

If you’re using a smartphone and feel a little limited by what a small sensor can deliver, but don’t want the huge bulk of a DSLR or large CSC, the EOS M100 could still potentially be up your street.

Compact Canon ILC camera that produces results comparable to large Canon SLRs. Amazing picture quality and ease of use. Great travel camera and will fit in a large pocket. Works with M lenses and will work with all Canon AF lenses with optional adapter.

    CompactSolid buildGreat photos

  • -

Works great in auto mode but to use in manual modes must access settings by way of menus (few exterior controls)

Background . A. We’ve reached a point now-a-days where all of the camera brands are producing models capable of superb imagery. It’s all a matter of what attracts you the most - that is, appearance, ergonomics, speed, options, and the type of shooting you do.

This is a great buy for someone with some photography experience who wants to take it to the next level. One thing though, to use any other lenses other than the one supplied - you will need to buy a specific adaptor for them to fit. We love the camera though and the photo quality is excellent!
