There is nothing like the arrival of a new Canon Super Telephoto Lens to bring the excitement of Christmas to any time of the year. And the hit on the credit card from this lens is considerably larger than the hit from most households' Christmas expenditures.

Given that there are so few choices available in this category of super telephoto lenses in the Canon mount, the decision is almost made for you if you need to produce images at distance.

Canon's EF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM lens is a 'big gun' in many ways. Weighing 4.5 kilograms and almost half a metre long with its lens hood attached, it's a challenge to shoot with. However, it also has a maximum aperture of f/5.6, which is outstanding for a lens with such a long focal length.

Owing a camera is one thing and pairing it with appropriate accessories is an entirely different thing. Of course, you just can?t solemnly rely upon the megapixels count of the snapper anyways.

Purchased this product as a gift for my wife who is an avid amateur photographer and artist (so when I say the picture looks great she is looking for ways to improve them). Prior to this purchase she used a Sigma 150-600 mm lens which allowed excellent wildlife photographic acquisitions but, nothing...

I finally managed to purchase this lens after 28 years of wanting a big glass. I looked at many different lens's some much less expensive and decided to go for this big gun.So far i found that the clarity and use is top notch. My photos have gone from OK to WOW!

It's an excellent lens in every regard. Compared to the 200 f2L IS (which I have) it falls a bit short in the CA performance. But if you've used the 200L IS this is something you'll fuss about with every lens you use and unfortunately the 800L IS isn't immune to it.

The Canon 800mm that I recently purchased is everything that I hoped it to be, which is super sharp and a breeze to use with my Wimberley Gimbal head. Quality construction along with Canon's optimum glass makes this lens stand above any other lens that I have used!

I don't own one of these, but I borrowed a friends. The image quality is quite exceptional, BUT, and there is a BUT...because you are so far away from your subject, there is an increased level of atmospheric interference present.

I am a wildlife photographer. I have been using a 500mm for years, with cropped sensor cameras, and with 1.4x and 2.0x converters. I never liked the results that I got with the 2.0x converters. But I need a really long telephoto.
