With the arrival of the Canon EF 35mm f/2 IS USM Lens, the Canon EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM Lens and Canon EF 28mm f/2.8 IS USM Lens now have another sibling - a big brother. Even before I had a 35 f/2 IS in my hands, I felt like I already knew this lens well as it shares design with these...

If you're shooting movies and are looking at the 35mm focal length, the lens is a no-brainer; integrated image stabilization comes in very handy. If stills are more your thing, it's a noticeable improvement over the original Canon 35mm Æ’/2 USM, but whether it's worth twice the price is perhaps in...

Handling and features This wide angle prime lens from Canon sports a fast maximum aperture of f/2, an ultrasonic focus motor and image stabilisation. This lens is currently available for around £765, which seems a little steep.

For several years now, Canon engineers have been reworking its original, high-speed, full-frame, wide-angle prime lenses for pros, bringing them up to current standards in optical quality, materials, capabilities, and features.

The Canon EF 35mm f/2 USM IS already impressed us in our full format review and it continues to do so in the APS-C scope. The center performance is very good at max. aperture and excellent to downright superb at medium aperture settings. The borders quality is also very high.

Once more Canon delivered a a high performance lens with only a few weaknesses. The center performance is very good at max. aperture and excellent to downright superb at medium aperture settings. The borders are somewhat low in contrast at f/2 but very sharp when stopped down a bit.

Comparing the lists of pros and cons of the Canon EF 35 mm f/2 IS USM and of the Canon EF 28 mm f/2.8 IS USM you can find out they are identical. It might indicate that the constructors of both devices have been guided by similar strategy.

compact and solid casing,, excellent image quality in the frame centre,, good image quality on the edge of the APS-C sensor,, well corrected chromatic aberration,, moderate distortion,, low coma on the APS-C sensor,, negligent astigmatism,, very good performance against bright light,, very swift and...

I bought this lens out of desire for a wider angle for landscapes without the distortion of a super wide angle, and still be able to shoot head-shots and portraits. I was coming from a Sigma 50mm f/1.4 (not art) lens, and this Canon glass definitely does not disappoint.

A perfect match for the 5D Mark iii, in that it's a versatile, genuine walkaround focal length and exactly the right build quality, weight and size to feel comfortable mounted on the camera. My first full frame lens and I suspect it will be a very hard act to follow.

  • +

Quiet, unobtrusive, well-balanced on 5D mk iii, extremely sharp, reliable & quick autofocus, effective stabilisation

  • -

Serious vignetting, but easily removable in post processing

This lens is reasonably sharp wide open and tack sharp by F/2.8. It's a convenient size/weight for a walk around...one of my most used lenses. Was this review helpful?

    No hood included

I've used this for everything from landscapes to street photography. I like its compact size. The image stabilization and low light performance is also great. Anything to do with "walking around" photography, this lens is the answer. Highly recommended!

I got this to use for shoulder-mounted video with a 5D IV. It gives you a fairly specific look, which I was going for, but which may not be appropriate for all situations. There isn't another Canon lens, however, that gives you a normal/wide field of view, wide aperture, *and* IS.

of this lens. The widest I would go was 50mm and even to me that was wide. But, I ended up dusting off the 5D3 and bought this lens for primarily for quick videos of the family. Instead what I got was not only a lens I use for video, but one I also love for stills.
