A dynamic mic and a condenser mic packaged together into a single body? Kinda gimicky, no? I’ve seen the trick that inspired the design of this mic many times — tape together a condenser and a dynamic and point them at the snare, kick drum, guitar amp, etc.
I bought this mic because I wanted a more professional sound to my kick drum, and that's exactly what I got. The 2 elements seem perfectly balanced, without any eq or compression or even balancing the faders I already have a pretty decent kick sound.
Most people would be deceived but the size and weight of this microphone. It is not as big and heavy as an RE 20 or as hyped as an AKGD112. It is well built(in China) and clean. It handles low frequencies and high sound pressure levels.
The Audio-Technica ATM250DE is a solid kick drum microphone with a high price tag. I have used other microphones that are half of what the ATM250DE cost that sound pretty similar too it.
This is one of the best mic.'s for Kick drum that I've used. It also sounds great on Snare. The only consideration is that it takes up two tracks when you are miking a drum kit with a bunch of other mic.'s. If you can pick up a used one on ebay it's money well spent.
Perfect Microphone to bass drum, snare, acustic guitar, trumpets, and much more. If you are looking for a versatile microphone, took to buy this Audio-Technica. Forget D112, Beta52, or others to Bass drum.
This mic is by far the best sounding mic I've used on the kick drum, it has a very natural response, all around a great mic. (I also own an Audix D6, and use a Shure Beta52 and AKG D112 weekly)
- Dual microphone capsules (in one case) for the instruments, bass drums, guitar amps ... - A condenser capsule (cardioid) to record the entire audible range and dynamics
