There's no questioning that the big and hefty Acer Predator 17 is a gaming laptop that's proud of its heritage. But it's also a good deal with strong performance, VR-capable graphics, and long battery life.
-
+
Good price. Swappable fan module. Plenty of storage and I/O options. Better-than-average battery life.
-
-
Heavy, bulky design. Fans can get loud.
Just this May, we reviewed the Predator 17 G9-792 with GTX 980M GPU. Now Acer has released the nearly identical successor, this time equipped with a GTX 1070 graphics card. The behemoth manages to impress once again with special features like an additional FrostCore cooling fan.
-
+
bright and contrasty 4K panel with great color space coverage, G-Sync for the integrated display, future-proof RAM and VRAM configuration, highly adjustable lighting configuration, additional, replaceable fan (FrostCore), usable tools (Dust Defender etc.
-
-
fan is a bit noisy and produces additional sounds, screen-bleeding quite pronounced, GPU-throttling at maximum load levels, big and bulky, touchpad is recessed too far
The Acer Predator 17, when we reviewed it last year, won our editor’s choice award. It remains our favorite gaming laptop. The Acer Predator 17 X harnesses many of the same advantages.
-
+
Handsome design, Rock solid build quality, Lots of connectivity, Strong all-around performance, Reasonable battery life
-
-
Speakers sound muddy, Backlit keyboard not adjustable for brightness, Desktop-grade GTX 980 could be quicker
The Acer Predator 17 is hard to beat performance-wise, especially against higher priced systems. If pure gaming horsepower is your top priority, then the Acer Predator 17 will serve your needs splendidly.
-
+
Robust build quality, Excellent performance, Superb cooling, Great price for a GTX 1070 laptop
-
-
Poor speaker placement, Unbalanced RGB levels and grayscale inaccuracy, Large and heavy
But if you have the money to spend, the model G9-791-79Y3 is about as formidable and future-proof as a laptop (well, luggable) can be. Its "Skylake" processor is the finest Intel has to offer, particularly for video rendering. Its memory and storage are superabundant.
-
+
Glorious gaming performance, Superb sound, Class-leading battery life
-
-
Expensive, Huge and heavy
The Predator 17 costs an arm and a leg, and I wish there were a higher-res screen option, but overall it's quite a remarkable gaming laptop. Compared to other models in the same price range, the Predator 17 offers similar performance but longer battery life, and a much bulkier design.
The Predator G9-791 is Acer's first attempt at building a proper 17-inch gaming laptop, and although some minor aspects could have been done better, the laptop ticks all the important boxes and earns our recommendation.

+
nice looking and sturdily built; excellent display, keyboard and trackpad; fast performance and do traces of throttling; runs cool and quiet; packs a large battery
-
-
tall and uncomfortable front edge; multiple LEDs that can't be switched off; slow Wi-Fi once you get away from the router; no GSync support
It’s easy to see why PC makers are targeting gamers — what other consumer demographic is willing to pay high prices for premium Windows hardware? But the problem with PC gamers is that many of them don’t need PC makers to assemble components for them, since you can get better results for less money...
-
+
Awesome power, Sensible design, Wonderful keyboard
-
-
Questionable utility, Weak trackpad, Not quite VR-ready
It costs close to AED 9550, which I would say is quite expensive for a gaming laptop. However, if you are looking for a replacement for you desktop, this is a good option. Sure, there are cheaper alternatives, but the Predator’s impressive GPU and other configurations makes its prey on games today...

+ Superb audio ,+ Good Performance ,+ Amazing Battery Life
-
-
- Bulky and heavy ,- Lack of 4K display ,- A bit on the expensive side
The Acer Predator 17 is not just a good first-shot from a relatively new gaming line, it’s a darn good notebook in and of itself. This laptop is large enough to give you a full gaming experience without being so bulky you’ll never move it from your desk.
- This machine is powerful and expansive --- I run 50 to 100 programs continuously except when gaming with little or no degradation. ----- 30 active tiling apps ----- 10 desktop programs ----- 20 to 50 Chrome/Firefox tabs ----- 20 tray programs ----- and endless services - It's a decent gaming...

- Fast processor with 4 dual threaded cores. - 64GB memory means limited paging and higher performance. --- It may allows caching games on RAMDisk for performance. --- It allows using RAMDisk for temp storage to limit SSD wear - Fast video card, reasonably configurable, with a ton of memory ---...

- UHD is not usable under other Windows 10 applications because of font scaling problems - Machine is configured in "RAID" mode which unnecessarily degrades internal drive performance. - Game performance at UHD resolution is not spectacular (use 1080HD).
Great laptop from Acer... Last year I purchased an asus but this predator 17 G9-791-78CE is much better. Thanks ncix for the great service I am sure I will do business with you again.

Everything is perfect in this laptop.

Nothing.
I bought this 5 months ago and have some minor software issues with some of its hardware devices eg,GeForce that were corrected with updates, etc. I'm not a gamer and bought it more for its looks and features which are great. I now have another issue.
