The new Nitro has to connect to the success of its Skylake predecessor. Although it has more gaming power for this, it is not enough for a Very Good rating. Where is the shortcoming?
quiet during normal use, matte, high-contrast IPS screen, gaming suitable up to Full HD, very good speaker sound, outstanding microphone, very good input devices, backlit keyboard, temperatures and performance, USB Type-C 3.1 with Thunderbolt 3, user-friendly maintenance
slow HDD (version), useless webcam quality, hinges/lid somewhat unstable, loud during permanent load & gaming, only two RAM slots (filled)
Acer took an excellent laptop and made it even better with the early-2017 version of the Aspire V15 Nitro Black Edition. If you're looking for a multimedia 15-incher with solid performance, big battery, an excellent display and a fair price tag, this device should be on your list, unless you'd...
This is not an ultra-portable laptop that you can toss in your bag without the power cable and expect to use all day. But as a portable gaming laptop, it's excellent. Great power, without the back-breaking mass of larger "portable" gaming systems.
- Very good price for the specs.
- As others have mentioned, the screen has an enormous bezel, which makes it a lot wider and harder to fit into bags.
So far so good! It runs my Vive just fine. It scores in the mid 7's on the Steam VR test. It's a great, sleek, fast laptop that doesn't scream "Gamer Laptop".
I bought this laptop on 05/2017, everything looks good till today I am trying to activate turbo boost. I assume it should be a simple option in BIOS and I just need to enable it. After I tried several times, I didn't find the option in BIOS. I even upgrade the BIOS to 1.0.6 still no lucky.
Let me start by stating why I enjoy this laptop. The specifications for this price level is extremely competitive, making it one of the best laptops I've found, and very cheap comparatively.
They actually sent out a computer without the 1 TB hard drive in it. I do not mean installed. I mean completely missing hard drive. The SSD was there but not the main hard drive.
One of if not the best deal for this setup in a laptop(i7 7700HQ + GTX 1060) with similar ones costing around $1,500. As other reviews have pointed out, this laptop does come with some thermal issues out of the box reaching a toasty 95C on the CPU package.
Great laptop for its cost. I found HDD slow, so replaced it with SSD and now its just perfection. Tried playing different games on it and could say that temperatures should be extreme for throttling to be activated. Usually in game it becomes really hot, will see for how long its casing will last.
Solidly built, with great performance. The laptop battery life is average, but I bought the laptop for performance not battery life. Display is fantastic. I like the red glow of the keyboard.
this is the best laptop by far! best for gaming and not to mention the speed it can do tings! Highly recommend this laptop! Best and worth it at the same time! :) ITS REALLY GOOD. BUY IT!!
Perfect size, excellent performance! I also like that it the styling is very subdued no big chunky red spaceship trim or huge obnoxious looking grills. The soft touch on the bottom is pleasant, and the brushed feel/look material everywhere else is great!
