Excellent audio reproduction., Comfortable design.

Very sensitive to ambient noise, by design., Open-back design, so they leak a lot., Big and bulky headphones.
The K701 makes a convincing case for itself when it comes to mixing and mastering, or simply lying back and listening to some of your favourite jazz or classical compositions.
One of the top 3 headphones currently available at a price that is affordable. Music flows out of these and is incredibly transparent sounding. Paired with the right amplifier, it is as good as audio reproduction gets using headphones. Check out the Current Price of the AKG K701 Headphones

Magnificent tonal balance that rivals some very high-end loudspeakers. Let's you hear every last little thing on the recording. Powerful bass that is very well controlled. Sit perfectly on your head and just vanish.

Lacks a deep bottom end. Needs a high quality headphone amplifier and source to really strut its stuff. Takes weeks of constant use before it is broken-in. Might not be the ideal headphone for rock music.
Are these the most comfortable headphones ever made?
Oh mama, was I ever excited when I heard rumors of the existence of AKG's K 701! If you're among the audiophiles who sneer at those of us wholikeheadphones, you're probably rolling your eyes and thinking I must lack a rich inner life. But hold on there, Skippy—some of ususethose cans in our prosumer...
I bought my K701 10 years ago or something similar and since then I really love them. So light i can wear them for hours playng games or listening records. The only excetion is fot mobility where I use the GRADO RS125E 'cause are smaller but good enought.
AKG provides a really different listening experience. I bought them to listen to my guitar through the amp so that I could turn it up loud ("turn everything up all the way" - Neil Young) without having the neighbours bang on the door to complain about the noise (which actually happened the night...
The AKG K701s are very good headphones. The information retrieval these headphones show up is very, very good! Vocals are also very good with the K701s in my opinion, and you can hear how good and badly recorded the songs are with the K701s.
The 701 is a very nice headphone set. I purchased mine from J&R Electronics online and received them in under one business week. I was using Sennheiser 280s until they failed up to the first of January 2009. The Sennheisers were at the time the best headphones I have listened to.
I´ve had my K701 for around 10 years now. Excellent headphones. Light, durable and with a near perfect sound.
These are awesome. Sound as good as just the monitors. In fact I'm using them more than my monitors because the clarity is so crystalline and it's more intimate.
Great sounding cans after extensive break-in period. Mine took a good 3 weeks of being played 24/7 before they sounded really good. Comfortable around ears, lowish clamping force (unlike vice-grip Senn '600's), don't feel hot after long periods.
For many of listeners, AKG K701 could be the best headphones in the world. Just think, everyone has its own particular test and demand toward the music performance and audio set-up.
Solid phones. Not sure i agree with the break in period accusations from people. Mine sounded really great out of the box. Bottom is not overdone and really tight. Top end feels super accurate without feeling flat. Moved to these from MDR's and it's definitely a step up for critical listening.
